Yves Gaucher was born in Montreal in 1934. He studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts from 1954-56, and began exhibiting in 1957.

Gaucher has received many prizes and awards, and his work is found in numerous important public, corporate and museum collections around the world including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, England, the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa, and the Musee d'Art Contemporain in Montreal.
